Wardrobe Casey Green Studios Scottsdale Arizona

Selecting the best outfits for your photoshoot should be fun!

Think of it as a chance to express your personality! It’s a great excuse to wear your favorite outfits that live in the back of your closet that  you love but rarely have the right occasion to wear them.

The only tricky thing is, your favorite outfits you wear in real life, might not be the best outfits to choose for your photoshoot.

Here are 5 tips to help you stay on track and make good wardrobe choices for your photoshoot.

  1. Avoid patterns. Even though colorful patterns can be bright and beautiful in person, they are often overbearing and distracting in photographs. Instead of selecting your favorite floral pattern skirt for the shoot, opt to find a skirt with a solid color instead.
  1. Tighter is best. I know this might seem counter intuitive. But wearing a top or bottom that is more fitted will make you look leaner in photographs. Tight tops allow for you to be posed to show the shape of your body, which creates a slimming effect. Therefore, don’t be afraid to choose a top or bottom that might be a little too tight to wear to brunch with your friends. Chances are that outfit will be the perfect choice for your photoshoot.
  1. Choose tops with sleeves. It doesn’t matter how lean your body type might be, choosing outfits with sleeves is always the best way to flatter your arms. Arms have a pesky way of smooshing up against your body and making you look larger than you are. Also, the armpit creases, we all have, can be distracting and unflattering. Therefore, to help avoid these potential unflattering looks, choose outfits with sleeves.
  1. Don’t be afraid to wear shapers or a push-up bra. These under garments are meant to help you feel your best in your clothes. Be sure to bring them with you to the shoot. Creating beautiful clean shapes and lines will slim you and present your body in the best light in your photographs.
  1. Push your wardrobe boundaries. One of the fun things about being photographed is experimenting with different looks. I always think it is a good idea to consider choosing at least one outfit that is outside your comfort zone. Maybe it is a tighter dress, or a more styled look than you’re used to wearing. I challenge you to stretch your style limits. You never know what new look you might discover and LOVE!
